தோனியின் மவுனமான வெற்றி!

Posted Date : 17:23 (30/12/2014)Last updated : 18:02 (30/12/2014) தோனிக்கு வாய்ப்புகளை அள்ளித்தந்த சூழலோ, தங்கத்தட்டில் கிரிக்கெட் நுழைவோ அவருக்குச் சத்தியமாகத் தரப்படவில்லை. பீகார் அணியில் அவர் ஆடி,  அணி தோற்றுப் போன போட்டிகளின் கதைகள் நமக்குத் தெரியாமல் இருக்கலாம். இரவுகளில் கண்கள் சிவக்க டிக்கெட்களைப் பரிசோதித்துவிட்டு, பயிற்சிக்கு போன பொழுதுகளை அவரின் ஆறு சதங்கள் சொல்லிவிடாது. இலங்கையுடனான தொடரில்தான் இந்திய அணியில் அவர் சேர்க்கப்பட்டு இருந்தார். பந்தையே சந்திக்காமல் டக் அவுட்டாகி ஒரு நாள் போட்டி அவரை அன்போடு வரவேற்றது. டெஸ்ட் போட்டியும் பூமெத்தையாக அமையவில்லை. ஐந்து விக்கெட்டுக்களை 109 ரன்களுக்கு அணி இழந்திருந்த சூழலில், 'தோனி ஆடிவிட்டு வா!' என்று அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள். மலைகளின் மீது ஏறி, ஏறி உரமேறி இருந்த கால்கள் சளைக்காமல் அன்று கைகளோடு இணைந்து போராடியது. முப்பது ரன்கள் அடித்திருந்த தோனிதான் கடைசி ஆளாக நடையைக் கட்டியிருந்தார்.  விட்டேனா, தீர்க்கிறேனா பார் என்று பாகிஸ்தான் கொக்கரித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த பைசலாபாத் டெஸ்டில், பாலோ ஆனைத் தவிர்க்கவே நூறுக்கும் மேலே ரன் அடிக்க வேண்டிய சூழல். சிரித்தபடி, ஆளைக் கொல்கிற அளவுக்கு அழுத்தம் இருந்தாலும் 'எல்லாம் ஆல்ரைட்!' என்கிற அதே முகபாவனையோடு வெறும் 93 பந்துகளில் சதமடித்து அணியைத் தோனி கரைசேர்த்தபொழுதுதான் கவனிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார்கள். பதினொரு தையல்களோடு கும்ப்ளே கிரிக்கெட் வாழ்க்கை போதும் என்று கையசைத்து விடைபெற்ற பொழுது, எல்லா வகையான கிரிக்கெட்டிலும் அணித்தலைமை தோனி வசம் வந்திருந்தது. வெற்றியைத் தவிர வேறு எதுவும் தெரியாது என்பதுபோல அணி அடித்து ஆடியது. கிரேக் சேப்பல் உண்டாக்கிவிட்டுப் போயிருந்த சீனியர்கள் வெளியே போங்கள் கோஷத்துக்கு முடிவுகட்டி, "எல்லாரும் முக்கியம் பாஸ்!" என்று தோனி அமைதியாக ஒருங்கிணைத்துக் கொண்டே போனதில் அணி முதலிடத்தை நோக்கி முன்னேறியது. இலங்கையுடனான தொடரில் அமைதியாக இரண்டு சதங்கள் அடித்துக் கூல் கேப்டன் கைகொடுக்க, அணி நம்பர் ஒன்னாக ஒன்றரை ஆண்டுகள் கோலோச்சியது. கிறிஸ்டன் அப்பொழுது ஏற்பட்ட உணர்வை இப்படிச் சொன்னார், "தோனி மட்டும் உடன் வருவார் என்றால்போருக்குக் கூடப்போகத் தயார்."  தோல்வியில் இருந்து அணியைக் காக்க பேட்டிங் செய்வது, அசராமல் விக்கெட் கீப்பிங் செய்து ஸ்டம்பிங், கேட்சுகள் அள்ளுவது, ஏழாவது விக்கெட்டாக வந்தாலும் சதமடிப்பது எல்லாமும் செய்து முடித்த பின்பு, "நான் ஒன்னுமே பண்ணலைப்பா!" என்கிற மாதிரியான அந்தப் பாவனையில் தான் எத்தனை வசீகரம்? உச்சத்துக்குப் பிறகு உன்னைக் கீழே தள்ளும் உலகம் என்பது போல வெளிநாட்டுக்குத் தலைமை தாங்கி போன போட்டிகளில் எல்லாம் அடித்துத் துவைத்தார்கள். தொடர்ந்து எட்டுத் தோல்விகள் வந்து சேர்ந்த பொழுது தோனியை காய்ச்சி எடுத்தார்கள். புதிய அணியை நிர்மாணிக்கிறபொழுது நிலநடுக்கங்கள் எழத்தான் செய்யும் என்று அவருக்குத் தெரியும். சொந்த மண்ணில் தோல்வியைச் சுவைக்காத அணி இங்கிலாந்திடம் தொடரையே இழந்த பொழுது தோனி தோற்றுவிட்டார் என்று முடிவுரை எழுதினார்கள்.  அண்ணன் ஆஸ்திரேலியாவை அன்போடு அவர் வரவேற்றார். நாற்பது வருடங்களில் முழுவதும் தோற்கடிக்கப்பட்ட வரலாறு இல்லாத அந்த அணியை 4-0 என்று துவைத்துத் தொங்கவிட்டார்கள். தோனி எப்பொழுதும் போல ஓரமாக நின்றுகொண்டார். வெளிநாட்டு மண்களில் அதிகபட்ச தோல்விகளைப் பெற்ற தலைவர் என்று விமர்சிக்கப்படுகிற தோனி மிக அதிகபட்ச டெஸ்ட் வெற்றிகளைப் பெற்றிருக்கிறார் என்பதையும், வெற்றி சதவிகிதம் 45 என்று இருப்பதையும் இணைத்தே பேசவேண்டும். அடுத்த இடத்தில் இருக்கும் கங்குலி தலைமையில் ஆடிய இந்திய அணி 42.9 % வெற்றிகளைச் சுவைத்திருக்கிறது.  இன்னம் ஆறு விக்கெட்டுகளைக் கழற்றி இருந்தால் முன்னூறு கைப்பற்றல்கள், கூடவே 124 ரன்கள் அடித்திருந்தால் ஐயாயிரம் ரன்களைத் தொட்டிருக்கலாம் என்கிற சூழலில், "போதும்!" என்று விடை பெறுகிற தோனியின் இலக்கு உலகக்கோப்பை என்பது அவரை ஆழமாகக் கவனிக்கிறவர்களுக்குப் புரியும். சச்சின், உலகமயமாக்கல் இந்தியாவில் நுழைந்த சூழலில், பல்வேறு வன்முறைகள், வலிகளுக்கு நடுவே தன் ஆட்டத்தின் மூலம் ஆறுதல் தந்தார் என்றால், "நான் இருக்கிறேன் பார்!" என்று அறிவித்துக்கொண்டு இருக்காமல் அர்ப்பணிப்போடு செயல்படுவதும் வெற்றிகளைத் தரும் என்று தோனி அறியச் செய்தார். அணியை அமைதியான ஆளுமையால் இறுகப் பிணைத்து வெற்றிகளைப் பெறமுடியும் என்கிற பாடத்தைத் தோனி நடத்தினார். நடுத்தரக் குடும்பத்தில் இருந்து மென்மையான புன்னகை, தீர்க்கமான ஆட்டத்தின் மூலம் உன்னதங்களை அடைய முடியும் என்கிற நம்பிக்கையையும் அவர் சேர்த்தே தந்துவிட்டுப் போயிருக்கிறார். நான்கு ஓவர்கள், நான்கு விக்கெட்கள் மீதமிருந்த நிலையில், வருடம் முடிகிற தருணத்தில் வரலாறு ஒன்றையும் முடித்துக்கொள்வது ஆர்ப்பரிப்பு இல்லாமல் பாயும் சூரியக்கதிர் போன்ற தோனிக்கு எளிமையான விஷயமாக இருக்கலாம். ரசிகர்களுக்கு அப்படியிருக்காது. வெற்றிகளின்பொழுது ஓரமாக ஒரு ஸ்டம்ப்பை மட்டும் ஏந்திக்கொண்டு போகும் அவர் தற்பொழுது எல்லாரின் இதயங்களையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு மவுனமாகவே போகிறார். அறிவிப்பை அவர் சார்பாக நம்மையே அறிவிக்க வைத்திருப்பதில் இருக்கிறது அவரின் மவுனமான வெற்றி.  கவாஸ்கர் சொன்ன அந்த வரிகள்தான் அடுத்த உலகக்கோப்பையில் தோனியிடம் நாமும் கேட்கிறோம் , "எனக்கு இன்றைக்குச் சாவு என்றால், 2011 உலகக்கோப்பை இறுதிப்போட்டியில் தோனி அடித்த இறுதி சிக்ஸரை மீண்டுமொரு முறை பார்த்துவிட்டு சாகவேண்டும்." நூறு கோடி பேரின் பெரும்பாலான நம்பிக்கைகளை மெய்ப்பித்த நீங்கள் இதையும் மீண்டுமொரு முறை செய்து முடிப்பீர்கள். சகாப்தங்கள் முடிவதில்லை !  நன்றி பூ.கொ.சரவணன் . நல்ல பதிவு -

Salman dethrones SRK in Forbes' 2014 Celebrity 100 list

Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan may be starting a new chapter of their friendship after an undeclared cold war, but the latter has dethroned the former by grabbing the top spot in Celebrity 100 list for 2014 of Forbes magazine.

Interestingly, Shah Rukh has fallen down from the number one spot to Salman's last year's number three spot. The decline is because of his disappearance from the screen for the preparation and shoot of his top grosser Happy New Year.

Shah Rukh did some cameos in movies like Youngistaan and Bhoothnath Returns in the period considered for this list. Whereas, Salman was all over the entertainment sector with his films like Kick and Jai Ho. In fact, his stint as the host of the reality TV show Bigg Boss is also credited for his upward swing.

Actress Deepika Padukone has reinforced women power in Bollywood by becoming the only woman mentioned in the top ten of the list. After featuring in movies like Happy New Year and Finding Fanny, the actress is at the eighth spot in the list with earnings of Rs. 67.20 crore, said a statement.

The list is compiled by measuring money and fame, which includes estimated entertainment related earnings from Oct 1, 2013 to Sep 30, 2014, and their visibility on print, television and internet.

The list not only revolves around actors, television stars but even sportspersons, authors, film directors, music directors, singers and comedians.

At the second spot is megastar Amitabh Bachchan, while cricketer MS Dhoni and actor Akshay Kumar occupy the fourth and fifth position. The top five in the list dominate the earnings sweepstakes, accounting for as much as 35 per cent of the total revenues of the top 100.

Salman's estimated earnings in 2014 are Rs. 244.50 crore, Amitabh amassed Rs. 196.75 crore, Shah Rukh minted Rs.202.40 crore, Dhoni pulled in Rs. 141.80 crore and Akshay Rs. 172 crore.

Despite a quiet year, Shah Rukh’s earnings can be attributed to his brand value and endorsements. With 22 such deals in hand, he has endorsed the highest number of brands this year.

 

Shah Rukh outranks Salman in earning and popularity; tops Forbes India's 'Celebrity 100' list

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan has topped the inaugural Forbes India Celebrity 100 list, a ranking of India's biggest entertainers based on their income and popularity. Salman Khan and MS Dhoni, who closely followed SRK in the ranking, might be more famous, but King Khan landed at No 1 in the Celebrity 100, thanks to his earning power.

Forbes India estimates Shah Rukh earned Rs 202.8 crore, compared to Salman's Rs 144.2 crore and Dhoni's Rs 135.16 crore between September 2011 and October 2012. Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan are the other two celebrities in the top 5.

The ranking is a part Forbes India's special edition that decoded what lies behind the success of India's biggest creative entrepreneurs. The list ranks celebrities across eight categories - Actors, Sportspersons, TV personalities (Malaika Arora Khan, who earned Rs 5.65 crore), Comedians (Vir Das, Rs 1.6 crore), Directors (Karan Johar Rs 10 crore), Models (Esha Gupta, Rs 93.75 lakh) and Musicians (AR Rahman Rs 32.91 crore).

It was compiled based on a rigorous process that considered their income (from the business of entertainment) and fame (as measured by media mentions, online presence, social media followers)

A majority of celebrities fall in the age bracket of 30 to 50. However, that hasn't prevented a clutch of 12 youngsters like Saina Nehwal, Virat Kohli, Anusukha Sharma and Sania Mirza from breaking into the top 50. In fact, at age 23, Saina Nehwal is the youngest on the list.

Sachin Tendulkar as Rajya Sabha MP? Prime Minister recommends nomination

 New Delhi:  Sachin Tendulkar has reportedly been recommended to be nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha.  

Sources say Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written a letter to the President on this matter. The letter is expected to be forwarded by the Home Ministry. Sources have told NDTV that apart from Sachin, there are  two more names in the letter. 

Usually, a consent is sought before a person's name is recommended for nomination to the Upper House.

Observers  however say Sachin is actively involved in playing cricket and may not accept the offer. They point out that he has been a most apolitical person and not even been associated with a political cause.

BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad said , "If he is nominated, we will expect him to devote time to Parliament. It is serious matter." 

Congress' Renuka Choudhary deflected the question on Sachin's nomination by saying, "It'll be nice if he is in Parliament. He'll bat and we'll bowl googlies to him."

Sachin, and his wife Anjali, today paid a courtesy visit to Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath Residence in New Delhi. Mrs Gandhi wanted to meet the batting great and personally congratulate him on achieving the historic feat of scoring 100 international centuries recently.
     
Senior BCCI functionary and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla was also present at Sonia Gandhi's residence. Mr Shukla said he had no knowledge of Sachin's reported Rajya Sabha nomination.
     
According to sources, Tendulkar and his wife spent close to half an hour with Sonia.
     
The Congress President is learnt to have talked in general about cricket and wished the player luck for his future.

Give a second thought the next time you go to Google to get some information, for a new study says that Internet search engines are making people lose their memory.

Researchers at Columbia University have found that increasing number of users relied on their computers as a form of “external memory” as frequent use of online information libraries “wired” human brains.

The study, examining the so-called “Google effect”, found people had poor recall of knowledge if they knew where answers to questions were easily found, The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.

The researchers found that people were increasingly bypassing discussions with friends to use the Internet as their main source of information.

Prof. Betsy Sparrow, who led the study, said such web tools were making information easy to forget and that if people could not find answers immediately it could feel like “going through withdrawal”.

“We are becoming symbiotic with our computer tools, growing into interconnected systems,” said Prof. Sparrow, from Columbia’s psychology department.

“We have become dependent on them to the same degree we are on all the knowledge we gain from our friends and coworkers — and lose if they are out of touch. Human memory is adapting to new communications technology.

“We’re not thoughtless empty-headed people who don’t have memories anymore. But we are becoming particularly adept at remembering where to go find things. And that’s kind of amazing,” she added.

In the study, the researchers undertook four experiments involving student volunteers. They firstly asked 46 students from the Harvard, the Ivy League university, a series of true-false questions based on trivia such as, “An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain” before showing them words in different colours.

When the words could be linked to Internet, students responded more slowly and admitted they were contemplating searching for the answers on the web. Another 60 students were then given 40 statements to type on a computer before being told that the information would either be saved or erased.

They discovered that people who believed the data would be saved were less likely to remember.

Another experiment involved 28 undergraduates from Columbia who were asked trivia questions. They were allowed to take notes and the researchers found they too struggled to remember information that would be saved.

Finally, a further 34 Columbia students remembered where they stored their information in folders on their computers better than they were able to recall the information itself.

Prof. Sparrow admitted it remained unclear what the effects of being so “wired” will be on people over the coming years. She said the Internet had replaced a person’s circle of friends where people would traditionally look for information.

“(They) did not make the effort to remember when they thought they could later look up the trivia statement they had read. It may be no more than nostalgia at this point, however, to wish we were less dependent on our gadgets.

“(It shows) we must remain plugged in to know what Google knows,” she added

Facebook deletes 20,000 underage profiles daily

Social networking site Facebook removes about 20,000 profiles from the site every day for various infractions, including spam, inappropriate content and underage use, as part of its efforts to boost cyber security.

Facebook chief privacy advisor Mozelle Thompson appeared before the Australian Parliament's cyber-safety committee on Monday to discuss Internet-related security issues.

Representatives from Microsoft and Yahoo were also on the panel. Thompson's appearance made headlines when he was quoted in the Daily Telegraph as saying that Facebook "removes 20,000 people a day, people who are underage."

In a statement, Facebook said those 20,000 removals cover a variety of policy violations, including spam, inappropriate content and underage use.

Facebook users must be at least 13 years old. "At Facebook, we take safety very seriously and we were pleased to participate in a hearing in Australia to talk about our safety policies, practices and systems," the company said.

"As we explained in the hearing, these efforts include removing numerous accounts everyday for activities including spamming, posting inappropriate content, and violating age restrictions."

The 20,000 number does "not include the proactive efforts that actually prevent fake or under age accounts from being created," Facebook said.

"There are people who lie. There are people who are under 13 [accessing Facebook]," Thompson told Federal Parliament's cyber-safety committee.

Although the company requires its users to be at least 13-years-old, the limit is easily circumvented, like on pretty much any website on the Internet.

"While the social network has mechanisms to detect liars," Thompson admitted that "It s not perfect".

May 13: Verdict date for four states

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced the election dates for four states - Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry.

Assam will have election in two phases on April 4 and 11 while Kerala will vote in a single phase on April 13.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will also go to polls in a single phase on April 13.

However, West Bengal will vote in six phases. The first phase voting is on April 18, second phase on April 23, third phase on April 27, fourth phase on May 3, fifth phase on May 7 and sixth phase is on May 10.

Google doodle marks writer Jules Verne's birthday

Google on Tuesday plunged its users 20,000 leagues under the sea with its new innovative doodle to mark French science fiction writer Jules Gabriel Verne's 183rd birthday.

The Google logo on February 8 takes the form of the portholes of a submarine with an interactive lever on the side that can be flicked up, down or sideways to plunge the machine deeper into the sea. Through the portholes, users get a glimpse of the various forms of marine life.

A pioneer in his time, Verne is considered the father of the science fiction genre, who foresaw various inventions such as space, air, and underwater travel much before practical submarines, airplanes or spaceships were invented.

The doodle honours Verne's most famous fiction 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea' (1870), which tells the story of Captain Nemo and his submarine 'Nautilus' as seen from the perspective of Professor Pierre Aronnax.

Some of Verne's ideas about the not-yet-invented submarines which were laid out in this book turned out to be prophetic, such as the high speed and secret conduct of today's nuclear attack submarines, and the need to surface frequently for fresh air.

But Verne evidently had no idea of the problems of water pressure, depicting his submarine as capable of diving freely into even the deepest of ocean depths.

Verne is also the author of the classics 'A Journey to the Center of the Earth' (1864), and 'Around the World in Eighty Days' (1873). He is the third most translated individual author in the world. Some of his books have been made into films.

Google doodles have gained immense popularity over the past few years and the Google team has put out commemorative doodles on events ranging from news events, civic milestones, birthdays, death anniversaries and important dates in history.

Doodles have celebrated the Fourth of July, the Olympics, and John Lennon's 70th birthday. The Google team put up an elaborate holiday doodle for Christmas last year that took five artists about 250 hours to make.

Google estimates it has created more than 900 doodles since 1998, with 270 of them running in 2010. Some appear globally, and others are tailored for local markets outside the US, such as Kenya Independence Day.

Kolkata: In December 2008, legendary Diego Maradona had set foot in this football-crazy city. Come September 2, another Argentine stalwart Lionel Messi is set to arrive with his national team.

If everything goes as per the plan, it will be a double bonanza of sorts for football lovers here, as Argentina will play against either Spain or Portugal in the one-lakh capacity Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

The Barcelona star forward who won the Fifa Ballon d'Or award recently is likely to be part of the side that is scheduled to visit the city.

"We have signed an agreement for bringing the star-studded Argentine team to Kolkata," an official of a sports management company told PTI.

Confirming this, IFA general secretary Utpal Ganguli said, "The Argentina team are scheduled to play an exhibition match either against Spain or Portugal on September 2 here.

The IFA is organising the event, however another firm is bringing the Argentina national side".

In the recent past, a host of star footballers have come to Kolkata.

They include Diego Forlan, Romario, Branco, Lothar Matthaus, Karl Heinz Rumminege, Oliver Kahn, Gerd Mueller, Mark van Bommel and Ze Roberto.
